Seoul YWCA did a successful job on the 9th Peace in Asia

 
Peace in Asia is an exchange program for the sake of Burmese women refugee living on the Thai-Burma border, and it has been organized by Seoul YWCA and sponsored by Sungjoo Faoundation. This year marks 9th anniversary of Peace in Asia which has continuously carried on its supporting programs through interactions with the Burmese refugees living near Mae Hong Son.
 
Peace in Asia ultimately and firstly aims to have the Korean youth who join this program experience 'self-reformation' and its secondary goal is to make a change in a society through changes of each participant. Though the depth and length of their change might differ respectively, each and every participant whose mindset, attitude toward life and world view get changed is entrusted to make the world better than ever before, and this is the firm belief and foundation that Peace in Asia has stood upon.

Feelings from Tanzania - Lee Kwang Ho

The feeling that dominated my mind until the first day was worry rather than expectation. Our preparation was not enough on every aspect. But, my colleagues looked so happy and relaxed even though we were not prepared and had to teach the class tomorrow. That made me worried so much. However, when the first class had started, my thought changed completely. Still, there were a lot of insufficiencies in our classes. Although Kits for the class were not enough and student’s academic achievement was different from what we had expected, student liked us as ourselves regardless of the poor teaching. Though we made a mistake, they accepted and loved it as part of ourselves. Only then, I realized that I am the one who can’t really adjust in Tanzania, not our team members. There were a lot of problems while we had worked in Tanzania. There were conflicts among colleagues and sometimes miscommunication with local people caused some misunderstanding and conflicts. Y-teen's flea market

  November 11th, when the cold wind was blown in Myeongdong street, SeoulYWCA's Y-teens bravely face the weather for doing good. They sold second-hand clothes to raise funds for Y-teen scholarship. Thirty six teen members got together and divided roles and responsibility.     Although it was short four-hour flea marker, many people showed their interest and bought some clothes with an inexpensive prices. Y-teens totally collected about 200 US dollars from this events and they were proud of their positive activity.

Watch us; we are the Women Entrepreneur in Thandaunggyi Seoul YWCA had an article once to let you know that we are implementing ‘Sharing and Dreams’ in Myanmar supported by Samsung and Community chest of Korea for one year. (making the ribbon with  leftover pieces) The purpose is to get their economic independence and self-confidence. There are two batches in Thandaunggyi during the year. The first batch was finished in July, and from the August, the second batch was started their lessons! They had a handicraft class and ICT class. Through lessons, they could think of the business ideas and the profits. Thandunggyi is located in a mountain area, therefore it sometimes has trouble using electricity well, but they are having ICT class during this month. Please cheer them up and send regards!
