Seoul YWCA Breakfast Meeting



May 23rd, Peace Bridge 95 people were invited to the Breakfast Meeting Seoul YWCA hosted in the Royal Hotel. The purpose of this meeting was to celebrate Seoul YWCA's 95th anniversary and share the vision towards 100th year. Also there was a networking time with community leaders in Korean society. The president Ms.Jongnam Cho explained the way Seoul YWCA walked along and YWCA's future for justice-, equity-,life-centered world.




















Seoul YWCA hopes all the participants to become supporters of YWCA and have interests in what we are doing. Thank you all!

YWCA boycotts any products made by Oxy Reckitt Benckiser

Totally about 500 children and women are reported to have died or been injured after inhaling poisonous chemicals used in humidifier disinfectants manufactured and sold by several large distributors in South Korea from 2001 to 2011.   Lotte Mart's CEO apologized to the public on April 18, 2016 and offered plans for compensation to the victims. It was the first company involved in the humidifier sterilizer deaths to do so. Aekyung has not yet made a public apology.(But Lotte Mart raised an objection to court's verdict later this news because of the large amount of compensation for the victims.)   British-based firm Reckitt Benckiser has eventually admitted for the first time selling a humidifier disinfectant that killed about 100 people in South Korea on May 2, 2016.   Oxy Reckitt Benckiser, Cefu, Lotte Shopping, Homeplus, Aekyung have been criticised for previously refusing to take responsibilities more than five years.     ...

Feelings from Tanzania - Lee Kwang Ho

The feeling that dominated my mind until the first day was worry rather than expectation. Our preparation was not enough on every aspect. But, my colleagues looked so happy and relaxed even though we were not prepared and had to teach the class tomorrow. That made me worried so much. However, when the first class had started, my thought changed completely. Still, there were a lot of insufficiencies in our classes. Although Kits for the class were not enough and student’s academic achievement was different from what we had expected, student liked us as ourselves regardless of the poor teaching. Though we made a mistake, they accepted and loved it as part of ourselves. Only then, I realized that I am the one who can’t really adjust in Tanzania, not our team members. Demanding campaign for establishment of ‘Same wage day’

How do you feel if you earn different wage even though you did same work? As greeting the ‘Employment equality week’, Seoul YWCA held the campaign to demanding the establishment of the ‘Same wage day’. ‘Same labor, same wage’ means that employer has to pay the same wage to the people who have same value without any other discrimination in age or gender. Even though the weather was so hot, No one can discourage the will for ‘Same labor, same wage’ for making a peaceful world. South Korea is the country which has the widest wage difference among the OECD countries, and also has dishonor about the worst wage difference title. Women earn the lower wage rather than men even though they both work equally. According to the OECD, the wage difference in Korea between men women is 36.7%.
