We are the Women Entrepreneurs!

What a wonderful praying room and The Cross!
You can see these if you go to Prayer Mountain in Thandaunggyi, Myanmar.
There are unique praying rooms on the way to the top of the mountain.
Where 90 percent of the people are Buddhists, Thandaunggyi is very special area where the majority of people are Christians. Seoul YWCA has a meaningful education project here.

Seoul YWCA is giving the education program for local women with Myanmar YWCA which is supported by Samsung and Community Chest of Korea.

There are 4 lessons which are Sewing, ICT, Entrepreneur, and Gender for 100 local women in Thandaunggyi. World fellowship department of Seoul YWCA has been there to control the project smoothly.

Women who got these lessons could earn the profit while learning sewing.

Some participants could make profits from their own handicrafts through the training. The participants ' aspiration to contribute economic revitalization of the local community was surprising and touching.

Due to the difficulties in the power supply, electricity is often lost and traditional stereotypes about women kept bothering participants. There are several obstacles, but the enthusiasm of the women to get the proper education is soaring. Hopefully, they could bear fruit to become the leader of Myanmar.

Feelings from Tanzania - Lee Kwang Ho

The feeling that dominated my mind until the first day was worry rather than expectation. Our preparation was not enough on every aspect. But, my colleagues looked so happy and relaxed even though we were not prepared and had to teach the class tomorrow. That made me worried so much. However, when the first class had started, my thought changed completely. Still, there were a lot of insufficiencies in our classes. Although Kits for the class were not enough and student’s academic achievement was different from what we had expected, student liked us as ourselves regardless of the poor teaching. Though we made a mistake, they accepted and loved it as part of ourselves. Only then, I realized that I am the one who can’t really adjust in Tanzania, not our team members. There were a lot of problems while we had worked in Tanzania. There were conflicts among colleagues and sometimes miscommunication with local people caused some misunderstanding and conflicts. However, we tried to u...

In the midst of difficult circumstances such as the threat of COVID-19, soaring prices in the market and all the turbulences across Myanmar , we carefully restarted the Women’s Empowering Project to proceed with various vocational training as being planned. From February to March, an advanced sewing course was held, which has been ongoing since 2020. By developing further from previous trainings, the participants made various sizes of cross-body bags, tote bags, and travel bags with using the traditional pattern fabrics of the Karen tribe in Myanmar. In order to lead to the actual sales and generate profits, they created bags of various designs by paying atte...
