Even though the sky road is almost blocked by Covid-19, Seoul YWCA international cooperation department's <Sharing and Dreams(Women empowerment project in Myanmar)> is taking a step forward with Myanmar YWCA's close cooperation. In Thandaunggyi, Karen State, Myanmar, the Sharing and Dreams project site, people cannot gather due to the social distancing policy designated by Myanmar government, but the extension of Women Development Center where sewing training, hospitality training, and gender equality education will take place in the future is now under construction. Built as a single-floor building in 2019, Women Development Center can accommodate up to only 25 people. An additional floor built through extension will allow more space so that women participating in training can be provided with care services in a separate space from the training area when they accompany their young children. The construction started in April and shall be completed by the end of June. Please pray for the construction to finish safely so that Myanmar women can receive quality vocational training in a wide and pleasant space.

Funded by Samsung and Community Chest of Korea, <Sharing and Dreams Project> aims to foster gender equality in the society through vocational training of women in Thandaunggyi, Karen State, Myanmar. Starting from 2020 to 2022, this project will provide training and education to enhance Myanmar women’s participation in economic activities and raise gender awareness among local government officials. Please look forward to further projects by Seoul YWCA to support Myanmar women to develop their own lives with confidence!

Feelings from Tanzania - Lee Kwang Ho

The feeling that dominated my mind until the first day was worry rather than expectation. Our preparation was not enough on every aspect. But, my colleagues looked so happy and relaxed even though we were not prepared and had to teach the class tomorrow. That made me worried so much. However, when the first class had started, my thought changed completely. Still, there were a lot of insufficiencies in our classes. Although Kits for the class were not enough and student’s academic achievement was different from what we had expected, student liked us as ourselves regardless of the poor teaching. Though we made a mistake, they accepted and loved it as part of ourselves. Only then, I realized that I am the one who can’t really adjust in Tanzania, not our team members. There were a lot of problems while we had worked in Tanzania. There were conflicts among colleagues and sometimes miscommunication with local people caused some misunderstanding and conflicts. However, we tried to u...

The efforts to find the dream of Myanmar women continue!   Since 2020, Seoul YWCA has been supporting income generation through vocational training for women in Thandaunggyi, Karen State, Myanmar and has provided trainings on women’s rights for gender equality.
