2016 Y-Teen General Assembly
Youth department hosted a general assembly on the 7th, Jan. Twenty seven Y-Teen board members made an assessment of their activities in 2015 and created plans for the upcoming year. Also there was an election for the new board members and discussed how to develop the Y-Teen nationwide council and the Seoul YWCA regular volunteering program.

 


Cooking Class "Ohsunji"
The Gangnam Youth Center held a traditional cooking class "Ohsunji" on the 15th, Jan. as a special lecture in the Chinese character class. This class was proposed for elementary students to learn Chinese characters with fun activities. The participants tasted culinary culture by making rice cake with castella crumble and melted chocolate.
 

Youth Steering Committee Winter Workshop
Youth Steering Committee in the Seongdong Youth Center called "Creating Beautiful World" hosted a winter workshop on the 8th~9th, Jan. The group evaluated the activities in 2015 and made plans for 2016. Afterward, they also enjoyed a variety of sports games.
 



Published Everyone's newspaper
Garak Social Service Center published Everyone's Newspaper with Rainbow Reporters(youth activists group). The six youth reporters thoroughly participated in planning, editing, publishing, distribution of the newspaper. This newspaper will be made a good use of an active communication tool in the community.

Watch us; we are the Women Entrepreneur in Thandaunggyi Seoul YWCA had an article once to let you know that we are implementing ‘Sharing and Dreams’ in Myanmar supported by Samsung and Community chest of Korea for one year. (making the ribbon with  leftover pieces) The purpose is to get their economic independence and self-confidence. There are two batches in Thandaunggyi during the year. The first batch was finished in July, and from the August, the second batch was started their lessons! They had a handicraft class and ICT class. Through lessons, they could think of the business ideas and the profits. Thandunggyi is located in a mountain area, therefore it sometimes has trouble using electricity well, but they are having ICT class during this month. Please cheer them up and send regards! 

Labeling GMO

Seoul YWCA staffs participated in a training session to learn more about GMO. “Genetically Engineered Foods”, “Genetically modified organisms,” or GMOs, are organisms that have been created through application of transgenic, gene-splicing techniques that are part of biotechnology. These transgenic methods for moving genes around are also called “genetic engineering,” or GE.       This relatively new science allows DNA (genetic material) from one species to be transferred into another species, creating transgenic organisms with combinations of genes from plants, animals, bacteria, and even viral gene pools. The mixing of genes from different species that have never shared genes in the past is what makes GMOs and GE crops so unique. Y-Teen Picnic in Hangang

The picturesque photo was taken in the picnic of Y-teens on the 2nd September. Seoul's sky was clear and high enough for the Y-teens enjoyed the picnic. They got together to have group activity about peacebuilding. Since some of them met each other for the first time, so they needed icebreaking first. And they had a meal altogether and had a quiz game.       The purpose of this meeting was making good relationship among Y-teen members. Seoul YWCA hopes the Y-teens have more feelings of peace and YWCA.
