Anti-nuclear power plant movement has reached 100 times!

"YWCA supports the candidates of 20th general election who opens the world of no-nuclear power plants by developing renewable energy."

Seoul YWCA conducted a card section performance at the 100th anti-nuclear power plant campaign on March 15th, 2016.

The YWCA anti-nuclear power plant campaign has reached 100 times since March 10th, 2014. It has taken place on every Tuesdays in front of the Korea YWCA for two years.

This time, especially Seoul YWCA appealed to citizens to vote for candidates agree with anti-nuclear power plant policy nationwide in South Korea. The general election will take place April 13th, 2016.

Following the campaign, participants marched Myungdong Street to speak out against nuclear power. "No more Fukushima!", "Gather solar power to remove nuclear power plant!", "No nuclear power for the next generation!" were chanted for sustainable Korean society.

(making the ribbon with leftover pieces) The purpose is to get their economic independence and self-confidence. There are two batches in Thandaunggyi during the year. The first batch was finished in July, and from the August, the second batch was started their lessons! They had a handicraft class and ICT class. Through lessons, they could think of the business ideas and the profits. Thandunggyi is located in a mountain area, therefore it sometimes has trouble using electricity well, but they are having ICT class during this month. Please cheer them up and send regards!

Labeling GMO

Seoul YWCA staffs participated in a training session to learn more about GMO. “Genetically Engineered Foods”, “Genetically modified organisms,” or GMOs, are organisms that have been created through application of transgenic, gene-splicing techniques that are part of biotechnology. These transgenic methods for moving genes around are also called “genetic engineering,” or GE. This relatively new science allows DNA (genetic material) from one species to be transferred into another species, creating transgenic organisms with combinations of genes from plants, animals, bacteria, and even viral gene pools. The mixing of genes from different species that have never shared genes in the past is what makes GMOs and GE crops so unique. Y-Teen Picnic in Hangang

The picturesque photo was taken in the picnic of Y-teens on the 2nd September. Seoul's sky was clear and high enough for the Y-teens enjoyed the picnic. They got together to have group activity about peacebuilding. Since some of them met each other for the first time, so they needed icebreaking first. And they had a meal altogether and had a quiz game. The purpose of this meeting was making good relationship among Y-teen members. Seoul YWCA hopes the Y-teens have more feelings of peace and YWCA.
