1. Health promotion service for seniors
On March 18th, Bongcheon Social Service Center had a health promotion service for seniors in the area. This service is contributed by Nowwoori Hospital once a month as a pro bono activity. Basic blood pressure, blood-sugar check, electrical massage service, etc. provided healing time to soothe seniors' mind and body.
 
 
 
 
2. Resident group bread sharing voluntary service
"Baguette", a resident volunteering group of Garak Social Service Center started their first activity on March 21th. Since 2014, the group has shared love by giving out homemade bread for seniors in the area and lower-income groups.
 
 
 
 
3. School violence prevention - Peer Leader training
Gangnam Youth Center carried out a 'Peer leader program' for 334 elementary students to prevent school violence over three days - March 9th, 13th, and 23th. They participated in playing activities and peer counseling. They learned how to help and take care of friends when they encounter conflicting situations. Starting a new semester, we look forward to various activities from these peer leaders in new classes.

Watch us; we are the Women Entrepreneur in Thandaunggyi Seoul YWCA had an article once to let you know that we are implementing ‘Sharing and Dreams’ in Myanmar supported by Samsung and Community chest of Korea for one year. (making the ribbon with  leftover pieces) The purpose is to get their economic independence and self-confidence. There are two batches in Thandaunggyi during the year. The first batch was finished in July, and from the August, the second batch was started their lessons! They had a handicraft class and ICT class. Through lessons, they could think of the business ideas and the profits. Thandunggyi is located in a mountain area, therefore it sometimes has trouble using electricity well, but they are having ICT class during this month. Please cheer them up and send regards! 

Labeling GMO

Seoul YWCA staffs participated in a training session to learn more about GMO. “Genetically Engineered Foods”, “Genetically modified organisms,” or GMOs, are organisms that have been created through application of transgenic, gene-splicing techniques that are part of biotechnology. These transgenic methods for moving genes around are also called “genetic engineering,” or GE.       This relatively new science allows DNA (genetic material) from one species to be transferred into another species, creating transgenic organisms with combinations of genes from plants, animals, bacteria, and even viral gene pools. The mixing of genes from different species that have never shared genes in the past is what makes GMOs and GE crops so unique. It is impossible to create such transgenic organisms through traditional crossbreeding methods.        In South Korea, labeling GMO law is not enacted yet, so many citizens don't care about what GMO i...

Y-Teen Picnic in Hangang

The picturesque photo was taken in the picnic of Y-teens on the 2nd September. Seoul's sky was clear and high enough for the Y-teens enjoyed the picnic. They got together to have group activity about peacebuilding. Since some of them met each other for the first time, so they needed icebreaking first. And they had a meal altogether and had a quiz game.       The purpose of this meeting was making good relationship among Y-teen members. Seoul YWCA hopes the Y-teens have more feelings of peace and YWCA.
