YWCA news in April


Seoul YWCA signed an agreement with Far East Broadcast Company(FEBC) on mutual promotion for both institutions. This agreement will play an important role not only for promoting Seoul YWCA's activities as a Christian women's association but also for spreading out its social impact.(21th April, 2016) 
 
 
 
Pursuing happiness : Intergeneration program
Bongcheon Social Service Center have begun volunteering activities between Moonyoung High school volunteering club and senior citizens. The high school students visit seniors home once a month to teach them how to use a smart phone. Their kick-off event left high expectations for upcoming meetings.(8th April, 2016)
 
 
 
 

Yeongduengpo Women Resources Development Center opened an art psychotherapy class, "Listen to my heart!" for married job-seekers. The teachers are from the art psychotherapist co-op built by Yeongduengpo Women Resource Development Center, this is the first business the two institutions work together. The participants told that the program was so helpful to get calmed down and get more confident.(21th April, 2016)

Open forum for MeToo movement and Media report.

I’m sure that you’ve heard about MeToo movement recent days. Seoul YWCA had an Open forum for ‘MeToo Movement and Media report’ to eradicate the violence of gender on 20th, March at Seoul YWCA auditorium.



This forum was to indicate the problem how media report the issue related with MeToo and to discuss what should we do to improve this matter.

Seoul YWCA has worked to advance women’s right since 1922, and is still working on support women who stepped out to explain what they experienced.

Women had endured for a long time before MeToo movement came out, and this is a new wave that they are no longer hiding their experience related with sexual violence. With this new wave, Media reports these issues every day, but they are missing something really important only by focusing sexually provocative subject. Because of this distorted media report, it causes secondary victimization of sexual violence victims.



The subject of open forum was ‘How Media treat MeToo movement.’ and there were 3 panel…

"Come on, woman! Save the local area!”
On August 30, the YWCA's northern district member event was held at TG Hall under the supervision of Seoul Y.


This year’s slogan was "Connect the hope through Women and Region”
Gangreung, Donghae, Seoul, Sokcho, Wonju, Incheon, Chuncheon, Total seven northern parts of the 450 members of Y participated in this event. 



"We're all members of the YWCA, re-inventing the mission given to us and working with local women. I wish we could become a community of hope and growth."
The opening ceremony was started as a welcoming address of Seoul YWCA Chairman




Education was also conducted to strengthen the members' capabilities. Lee Suk-jin, a professor of Christianity at Ewha Women's University, said, "Why should YWCA exercise in the region?"
She proposed the movement direction by area with the current status and assessment of the Y local women's movement.

Welcoming Ms.Chantanee Molee!

Seoul YWCA had a special guest to its office on the 2nd of November. Ms. Chantanee Molee, the Secretary General of the National YWCA of Thailand. Although she visited South Korea for travel with her college alumni during personal vacation, she kindly made time to visit us and had luncheon with Finance Committee including the President, Ms.Cho and Secretary General, Ms.Yang.



Ms.Chantanee also stopped by the National YWCA of Korea to see her old-friend Ms.Yoo who is the Secretary General. Ms.Chantanee got informed regarding current programs of YWCA in Korea and take a short tour to Seoul YWCA building.

Seoul YWCA was really happy to see her in our office, and will continue the close relationship between two Y.
