Seoul YWCA went to CSW!

March, 10th-20th, 2017, Seoul YWCA HEEJIN LIM(EWHA Y, Peacetalktalk) participate UN CSW 61 (CSW is abbreviation for Commission on the status of women) with three other young women participants.

Before CSW, She also participated the youth forum which was held by UN women.

In youth forum, she debated and share opinion about gender equality with people from all over the world.

This year, the main theme of CSW is "Women's economic empowerment in the changing world of work". During the session, she can learn about each countries' policy for women and also share various viewpoints through interactions with participants from many countries.

Also, she prepared presentation about "women and war, conflict" with other young women participants. They inform seriousness of sex slaves during the war to international society. They also joined the campaign with World YWCA and invited Asian YWCA members for sharing.

Labeling GMO

Seoul YWCA staffs participated in a training session to learn more about GMO. “Genetically Engineered Foods”, “Genetically modified organisms,” or GMOs, are organisms that have been created through application of transgenic, gene-splicing techniques that are part of biotechnology. These transgenic methods for moving genes around are also called “genetic engineering,” or GE. This relatively new science allows DNA (genetic material) from one species to be transferred into another species, creating transgenic organisms with combinations of genes from plants, animals, bacteria, and even viral gene pools. The mixing of genes from different species that have never shared genes in the past is what makes GMOs and GE crops so unique. Watch us; we are the Women Entrepreneur in Thandaunggyi

Watch us; we are the Women Entrepreneur in Thandaunggyi Seoul YWCA had an article once to let you know that we are implementing ‘Sharing and Dreams’ in Myanmar supported by Samsung and Community chest of Korea for one year. (making the ribbon with leftover pieces) The purpose is to get their economic independence and self-confidence. There are two batches in Thandaunggyi during the year. The first batch was finished in July, and from the August, the second batch was started their lessons! They had a handicraft class and ICT class. Through lessons, they could think of the business ideas and the profits. Thandunggyi is located in a mountain area, therefore it sometimes has trouble using electricity well, but they are having ICT class during this month. Please cheer them up and send regards!

Y-Teen Picnic in Hangang

The picturesque photo was taken in the picnic of Y-teens on the 2nd September. Seoul's sky was clear and high enough for the Y-teens enjoyed the picnic. They got together to have group activity about peacebuilding. Since some of them met each other for the first time, so they needed icebreaking first. And they had a meal altogether and had a quiz game. The purpose of this meeting was making good relationship among Y-teen members. Seoul YWCA hopes the Y-teens have more feelings of peace and YWCA.
