4th Book report competition award ceremony

Seoul YWCA held Book report competition award ceremony of 'Book mentoring Project' on 10th, May.



Book mentoring project is support program writing letters with sending books for girls who are in Youth Detention Center or Alternative school.
 
Seoul YWCA has held Book mentoring project since 2012 and Book report competition has 4th anniversary this year. Thanks for support, This Book mentoring project is sponsored by Hana Nanum Foundation.





We had 120 book reports and 36 students were awarded the prize including grand prize.

“I barely read books before, but while staying in Youth Detention center, I could be a friend with book and can even write the book report first ever. The most important thing is that I won the prize! I’m out of Youth Detention center now; however, I’m going to continue reading books as a good habit.” Song Min Kim (alias, Junsim Girl’s Industry High school student) who won the grand prize stated her feelings about having won the award.  

 


We could have the warmest moments to have this award ceremony celebrating their promising future. Seoul YWCA will continue the book mentoring project to help them to be a leader of our society. If you have any concerns, Please do not hesitate to knock the door!

Women Empowerment Project in Myanmar

  The efforts to find the dream of Myanmar women continue!   Since 2020, Seoul YWCA has been supporting income generation through vocational training for women in Thandaunggyi, Karen State, Myanmar and has provided trainings on women’s rights for gender equality. In the midst of difficult circumstances such as the threat of COVID-19, soaring prices in the market and all the turbulences across Myanmar , we carefully restarted the Women’s Empowering Project to proceed with various vocational training as being planned. The Training of Enumerators of Baseline Survey for the Myanmar Women's Empowerment Project

As part of the Seoul YWCA’s Myanmar Women's Empowering Project, the Women Development Center in Thanduanggyi, has been successfully extended. Furthermore, a baseline survey will be carried out in July. It aims to gather information about the basic living standards of the residents and their demand for vocational training. From June 22 to 23, Myanmar YWCA conducted training of enumerators using Messenger Rooms, an online conference platform, due to the ban on inter-regional travel and gatherings in the village, which are the countermeasures against Covid-19. Ten young people who are fluent in Bwe Karen language, Myanmar language and proficient in Internet use were selected as local enumerators for the baseline survey. National YWCA of Myanmar shared the goal and details of the “Myanmar Women's Empowering Project” with enumerators.
